Meet Makenna

I believe I am a human first and a therapist second, and I carry that belief into every part of my work. I don’t see therapy as something that should feel clinical, distant, or rushed. Instead, I believe it works best when there is space to slow down, be present, and meet your experience with care rather than judgment or urgency. In my work, I aim to create a space where you don’t have to hold everything together, explain things perfectly, or push through on your own in order to feel supported.

I understand that many people come to therapy carrying things that are heavy, layered, and often unseen by others—grief, anxiety, trauma, self-doubt, or the quiet exhaustion of trying to keep up. I don’t believe these experiences need to be “fixed” or pushed past, but instead understood with patience, compassion, and respect for what you’ve had to carry. Therapy, to me, is a space to gently come back to yourself and begin relating to your experience in a more honest and supportive way. I bring both professional training and personal insight into this work, understanding that healing, resilience, overwhelm, loss, and growth are not just clinical concerns, they’re deeply human experiences.

Outside of therapy, I’m a new mom and spend a lot of time with my family and dogs. I enjoy being outside whenever I can, especially going for walks or playing volleyball, and I also like to read when I get the chance (usually with a book I’ve told myself I’ll finish for a while now). I’m someone who enjoys creative projects like scrapbooking, and I like having small, everyday things to look forward to. I also value time with my community and volunteering when I’m able.

My Approach

I understand how overwhelming life can feel when you’re carrying anxiety, grief, trauma, or navigating major transitions, especially when you’re used to pushing through, holding it all together, or being hard on yourself in the process. I aim to create a space that feels genuine, grounded, and non-judgmental, where you don’t have to filter your experiences or have everything figured out in order to be supported.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and trauma-informed, honouring the ways you’ve adapted to life’s challenges while helping you build new ways of coping that feel more aligned and sustainable. I work with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Emotion-Focused and mindfulness-based approaches.

I have a strong focus on grief, perinatal and postpartum experiences, self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and relationship and boundary challenges, supporting you in making sense of your experiences and reconnecting with yourself in a more compassionate way.
